Costa Rica: Day Six

Today we woke up at our usual time of 5:30 am and headed to the Sion school in Moravia. When we arrived we had our first meeting of the day, which focused on interreligious dialogue and why it is important.

Each language group was encouraged to make a visual representation on their interpretations on interreligious dialogue and its value. We, along with the students from Sion, Kansas City, created a picture where all the religions were connected through a heart that valued peace and love.

After this activity all countries were separated and created a “golden rule” to live by and what we, as students of Sion, should strive towards in our everyday life, our rule is “Welcoming everyone with love and openess”, our symbol to go with the rule was a circle of hands with a space for one more, showing there is always a place at Sion for someone new.

After lunch, we had another activity that focused on the future of Sion and the world and what sets Sion schools apart from other high schools. We had a reflection of friendship, which made a few people tear up; it ended in lots and lots of hugging and appreciation of the friends we have made so far. We were then able to sign the document saying Sion will strive to do and how it will be influenced by us and future generations.

After all the hugging and signing we headed down to the Gym where a Talent Show had been set up and watched kids of all ages perform amazing songs, dances and acts. After the talent show, the school started a bonfire and some music and we all had a really good night where we danced with our new friends.
